KANSAS CITY -- Auctioneers across the U.S. and world are conducting charity auctions and making separate donations to charities as part of National Auctioneers Day, on Saturday, April 21. Members of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA) have donated more than $4 million to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital since 1995 to support this chosen charity of NAA. The hospital in Memphis, Tenn., provides pediatric cancer patients with the most advanced care available, and always regardless of the families ability to pay. Auctioneers and auction schools conduct special fundraising auctions for this charity, and other worthy causes in their communities, in April and throughout the year. Perhaps more than any other group, Auctioneers in all specialties routinely use their fundraising skills to help their local civic groups, churches, schools, and U.S.
The Importance Of Options
A recent survey by Manheim Auctions once more highlights the effect that factory-fitted options can have on a car's resale value. Manheim asked nearly 100 of its top used car buyers for their opinions on the effect of various optional extras on family cars, compact executives and full-sized executives. The results showed a similar trend in all three categories, with leather upholstery and satellite navigation having the most beneficial effects on residuals. The right paintwork was also considered important, with some respondents saying they wouldn't even bid on a car at auction if the colour was wrong, and especially if it was solid rather than metallic. In approximate order of importance, the other main influences on resale prices were climate control, a sunroof and a DVD/TV system.
Artists drive a hard bargain now
KOLKATA: Pricing of artworks has become a crucial factor in today's evolving Indian art market. Of late, one has been noticing a resistance, especially to paintings, at the highest levels. Even at the middle level, prices seem to be blowing out of proportion. Although, buyers still appear to be lapping up works at price points which are below the high-end prices. "Anyone buying art wonders about the functionaries who decide the price of the piece. The artists of the earlier times like the Tagores or Nandalal Bose used to gift their paintings because they were shy of mentioning a price for their works. Artist Kshitin Majumdar was taken aback when a painting of his was sold for Rs 5,000 by Chintamoni Kar to the Indian Museum. He was expecting a fraction of the price and needed the money for medical treatment.

Lots to buy as pottery goes under hammer
THE largest number of items of Poole Pottery ever to be sold in one place are to go under the hammer in Wareham. Cottees Auctions Ltd is offering more than 600 pieces, from museum-standard works from the 1900s, to the latest range at a dedicated sale on Saturday, April 28. The world-famous pottery was closed in December last year with massive debts. It has since been bought by Lifestyle, which is seeking new premises within the town. .
