Football Manager MMO announced

A massively multiplayer version of Football Manager has been confirmed by Sports Interactive, and will be released on the PC and Mac, though not for a while, as the developer have confirmed the title will not be out in March 2008.

While release is along way off, SI are plotting a beta test of the MMO footie manager game which will begin next month. Oh, and the game's called Football Manager Live.

Creating a custom team, FM Live will see you locking managerial horns with up to 1000 other gamers on each server.

"Imagine a cross between Football Manager, fantasy sports and auctions sites - and you are part of the way to understanding Football Manager Live," enthused SI boss Miles Jacobson. "It's great to be able to announce the game, and we can't wait to see the reaction to the beta when it launches next month."

Players joining the game will either be assigned an automatically picked squad, or select your own with a 100K per week wage budget.

Five bids for five franchises in Trans Tasman competition

The franchise make up for next year's trans Tasman netball competition looks to be a fait accompli, with Netball New Zealand receiving five expressions of interests for the five New Zealand places in the competition.

The five likely franchises are based along similar lines to rugby's Super 14 competition.

Netball North, Auckland-Waitakere and Counties Manukau have lodged a submission while Waikato and Bay of Plenty are set to make up another franchise.

Wellington, Tasman, Eastern Netball and Western netball another, Canterbury the fourth and Southland and Otago the fifth franchise.

Netball New Zealand chairman Don MacKinnon says he's heartened by the co-operation between the provinces to come up with the five bids and over the next two weeks Netball New Zealand will meet with the regions involved.

More questions surface on bonds for Berbice bridge roads

The performance bonds issued by Dipcon Engineering Services Ltd, to the unregistered Caricom General Insurance Inc, were placed by two insurance brokers and enquiries so far reveal that none of the brokers registered by the insurance commissioner participated.

Dipcon is the contractor for the Berbice River bridge approach roads. The Berbice River Bridge is a US$40 million project that is expected to be completed in the first half of next year.

Cabinet Secretary Dr Roger Luncheon said on Thursday that the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporat-ed (BBCI) should also write to the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board, in relation to concerns over the issuance of the performance bonds by Dipcon.

BBCI Chairperson Geeta Singh-Knight, in a letter to Public Works & Communica-tion Minister Robeson Benn last week had said: "As chairperson of the Berbice Bridge Company Incorporated I am writing on behalf of the Board, and thereby on behalf of the investors in the bridge, to express our concern about the issue of mobilization advance and performance bonds to Caricom Insurance by the contractor (Dipcon Engineering Services Ltd)…"

Singh-Knight had pointed out that Caricom Insurance is not registered by the Insurance Commissioner, "Therefore we have no means of assuring ourselves as a Board responsible for the execution of the bridge project that the insurance company is adequately capitalized to support the financial commitment implicit in the roads contract, and the Commissioner has no oversight authority to ensure capital adequacy is present and maintained."
