After more than a year in development, VAMquest.com is now up and running as an Internet auction site for VAM collectors. Each month a new VAM auction, featuring a wide array of rare TOP 100, HOT 50 and TOP 50 Morgan and Peace dollar varieties will be available for viewing at www.VAMquest.com. Auctions will then close on the 15th of the same month at 8 pm PST. Michael Oxman, President of VAMquest Auctions, said recently, At VAMquest, our plan is to focus on the ultra popular varieties in top-of-the-line grades. The fact is that we'll be more than a little disappointed if we don't offer at least a few VAMs each month that collectors have spent a lifetime trying to find! VAMquest is currently auctioning an 1878-P 8-TF VAM 14-15 in AU50 condition, as well as the ultra-rare 1903-S Micro S VAM 2, also in AU50.
Changes to 'kill' auctions
NEW real estate legislation has the potential to "completely kill" Adelaide's currently thriving auction market, according to the Real Estate Institute of South Australia. President Mark Sanderson said he feared some of the proposed changes - which include allowing only one vendor bid at auction and the compulsory registration of bidders - could destroy the industry's most transparent method of sale. Compulsory registration would mean any potential buyer who either arrived late or decided to bid during the course of the auction would not be allowed. Mr Sanderson said if people were forced to register during the auction, it would stunt the momentum of the process and ultimately affect the final price. Last month, REISA launched an advertising campaign in relation to parts of the legislation.
Mixed Forecast for Online Auctions
(Multichannel News) _ As eBay's Internet-based TV ad-auction venture hit massive turbulence, another from Google pulled onto the runway. The Cabletelevision Advertising Bureau last week abruptly pulled out of eBay's online marketplace for buying advertising slots on cable networks, dealing a critical blow to the project before it got off the ground. The CAB's about-face came just days after Google announced a deal with EchoStar Communications to sell a portion of the ad inventory on Dish Network's 125 national channels in an auction format. After several members of the consortium did a "deep dive" on eBay's Media Marketplace exchange for the past month, CAB CEO Sean Cunningham said, they concluded that the system would not provide the capabilities CAB needed. Emotional Aish bids
Mumbai, April 21: It was an emotional moment for Aishwarya Rai today as she bid farewell to her parents and relatives to embark on her new life as a member of one of India's most iconic families.
Clad in a cream-coloured lehenga, Aishwarya cried as she hugged mother Brinda Rai during the 'bidaai' (traditional farewell) from her residence La Merin in suburban Bandra. Aishwarya and Abhishekh Bachchan had tied the nuptial knot here yesterday.
"Obviously every daughter gets emotional when she bids goodbye to the house in which she is brought up in but there is also sense of happiness that she is going to a man whom she loved," said the actress' business manager Hari Singh.
Aishwarya came into a traditional 'doli' (palanquin) till the gate of the building from where the star couple moved on into a decorated car to escape the prying eyes of the media.
The Danger of Charity Auctions
I have a weakness that I'd like to confess. I generally lose my mind at charity auctions. If you're not familiar with charity auctions, they often work as follows. First, there will be a silent auction, in which you make bids by writing your name or a number that represents you on sheets of paper next to items you'd like to bid on. For example, I often bid on sports tickets to get good seats to a particular game. My wife bids on handmade jewelry. The silent auction will end at a certain time---whoever has bid the most wins. It's the eBay model. The second part of the auction is usually a live auction, in which bigger items are auctioned off with a real live auctioneer. If you want to bid on something, you do so, but in this auction the bid goes on until there's only one man or woman standing.
