EBay auctions fight genocide

LIVERMORE — Getting glamorous for a good cause is the idea behind a Livermore resident's eBay auction that will end Tuesday.

Daphne K. McCorery, 40, is auctioning off

13 pieces of her own art, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Genocide Intervention Network.

McCorery said she joined the network several months ago after reading about it in a People magazine article.

"I'm starting to be more aware and concerned what's going on — not just in local communities, but abroad," she said. "Eventually I'd like to do a lot more fundraising."

A caregiver in her day job, McCorery said she's been creating artwork all her life, most recently focusing on collages before getting started on her newest form: glam art.

She has combined her love for collages andfashion illustration into fashion-friendly pieces.

Online auction of Nicole Smith diaries fails

BEIJING, April 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Two bidders for two Anna Nicole Smith diaries pulled out of an online auction Saturday because of allegations the diaries had been stolen, an auction house spokesman said Sunday.

The two diaries -- written in the early 1990s -- failed to sell and are now available for a minimum bid of 25,000 U.S. dollars each.

"We have a buy-it-now situation," said Doug Norwine, the director of music and entertainment memorabilia at Heritage Auction Galleries of Dallas.

Among the two bidders' concerns were allegations by Smith's lawyer/partner, Howard K. Stern, the diaries had been stolen and should be returned to her estate, Norwine explained.

"They just got cold feet," he said.

City hears two bids for MSA site

Indianapolis - Two local development teams are eager to build on the old Market Square Arena site in downtown Indianapolis.

The city reopened the bidding process after a development team chosen three years ago failed to get the necessary financing in place. As a result the two, two-acre parcels have remained gravel parking lots since Market Square Arena was imploded nearly six years ago.

Wednesday afternoon, the Metropolitan Development Commission revealed the teams now vying for the project.

One is MarketAbility Partners, which includes Mansur Real Estate, Lauth Property Group, Hearthview Residential and Venture Real Estate. It proposes a $150 million mixed-use development including housing, office space, retail and a Target store.

Tranzon to Auction off Five Luxury Condos in Downtown Boston

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Tranzon Auction Properties, the nation's premier real estate auction group, will hold a public condominium closeout auction at the Langham Hotel for five units located at 65 Broad St. in Boston on Tuesday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m. At this unique auction event, prospective buyers can make bids both in-person and online with the first unit sold as a bidder's choice with no minimum bid and no reserve.

Unlike the increasing number of real estate foreclosure auctions, these high-end, one-bedroom condo units—known as Lofts at Broad—must be immediately sold by developer Steve Sarcia in order to obtain capital for an important upcoming real estate project.

"I have a new project in town that I have to start so timing is of the essence," said Sarcia.
