| Volvo used car prices strenghten across the range
Volvo Car UK has seen used car prices strengthen across its range over the past four months following a change in strategy for used car disposal. Volvo has traditionally sold all of its 6-12 month old used cars direct to its dealer network through closed physical and online auctions run by British Car Auctions (BCA). Since October 2006, Volvo used cars have been available through BCA open auction, with an average of 20% being snapped up by buyers from outside the dealer network. Rivermen Game-Worn Jersey Auctions Start April 23 and 25
Peoria, Ill. (April 16, 2007) - Peoria Rivermen Equipment Manager Joel Farnsworth announced today that the team will auction off its game-worn and game-issued Rivermen Home White and Road Blue jerseys on April 23 and April 25, respectively, at 9:00 a.m. on eBay (www.eBay.com). The jerseys up for auction may be found on www.eBay.com by typing "Peoria Rivermen Game-Worn Jersey" into the Category Search. Bidding on each jersey begins at $175, and both auctions will last for seven days, closing at 5:00 p.m. (all times local) on Sunday, April 29 and Tuesday, May 1, respectively. All bidders must have an eBay account which can be created at any time. Fans may also click the eBay logo on the right side of the front page of the Rivermen Web site, www.rivermen.net. Each jersey was made by CCM/RBK Hockey from Poly Air Knit Mesh with airflow side panels and underarm inserts.
Six injured in crash
SIX people, including two women and three children, all Indian nationals, were injured last night when the car they were travelling in collided head-on with another car, reports MANDEEP SINGH. The accident took place on Salmaniya Avenue, at the traffic lights near Manama Auctions, at around 9.30pm. Police said a speeding Saudi-registered car reportedly jumped a red light and rammed into the other car. The man driving the Saudi-registered car was not identified but he was reportedly in custody late last night. He was not injured. The injured have been identified as Lessone Lazanees, 23, who was driving; Siji, 35; Molly Yesudas, 31; her daughters, Amrita, 11 and Sneha, 7; and Krishnapriya Pradeep, 9. They were returning home from the Salmaniya Medical Complex after visiting Mr Lazanees' sister, who is in hospital after delivering a baby.
Barrett, city try to hammer out deal on auction
SCOTTSDALE - Scottsdale and the Barrett-Jackson Auction Co. continue to negotiate an agreement to keep the collector-car event here, but the two sides disagree on the progress of those talks. Scottsdale City Manager Jan Dolan said Thursday that the two sides had a "very good" meeting last Friday, the first session since the City Council went behind closed doors in March to hammer out a negotiating strategy. Barrett-Jackson spokesman Jason Rose said Dolan's characterization of the closed-door meeting is inaccurate. .
Waterhouse painting owned by Cdn couple to go on auction block ...
TORONTO (CP) - A rare Edwardian-era painting that belongs to a Canadian couple is expected to fetch up to US$2.5 million at a Sotheby's auction in New York on Wednesday. The oil-on-canvas piece, called "Gather Ye Rosebuds While Ye May," was painted by well-known British artist John William Waterhouse in 1909 and depicts young women picking flowers in a meadow. The composition comes from the Robert Herrick poem of the same name. The painting was obtained by the unidentified Canadian couple in the early 1970s when they bought an Ontario estate and its entire contents - including the artwork. Sotheby's believes the painting wound up in the house after the previous home owners purchased it from a private Canadian collection. The original owner was Sir Brodie Haldane Henderson in Hertfordshire, England.
