Japan to avoid JGB auctions on BOJ policy days

TOKYO, March 27 (Reuters) - Japan's Ministry of Finance has begun scheduling Japanese government bond auctions so that they do not coincide with Bank of Japan policy announcements, in line with requests from investors, the ministry said on Tuesday.

To avoid market volatility, offers for JGBs with coupons, financing bills, treasury bills and special debt will not be held on days that the BOJ is slated to announce policy decisions, starting with the June line-up of auctions released on Tuesday.

"Markets can become volatile when the BOJ makes policy announcements due to a wide range of news and information that comes out," Naoyuki Yoshino, head of the MOF's regular forum with JGB investors, told reporters following a meeting on Tuesday.

"It would be best to avoid holding auctions at such times."

The MOF's last 30-year JGB auction was held on the final day of the BOJ's two-day policy meeting in January, when the central bank surprised many in the market by keeping rates steady at 0.25 percent.

First round begins in battle to shape wireless future

To the untrained eye, today's wireless telecom summit at the Chateau Laurier might seem like a dull, but deserving, discussion of the terms and process for an upcoming federal government auction of something called spectrum bandwidth.

The reality, however, is that this is the opening round of a corporate brawl that will play out in the headlines and behind the doors of lobbyists for the rest of this year. And the outcome will determine the shape -- and the consumer prices -- of Canada's $9-billion wireless phone market.

"This is all so politically charged because it's the high-growth segment of the industry," explains Peter Barnes, head of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, which organized the day-long event.

ROGERSVILLE - It seems like every time the Hale Springs Inn renovation project takes one step forward something happens to send it two steps back, but officials say it's now headed back in the right direction.

For the second time construction bids for the project have been advertised, and potential contractors will have a chance to walk around the 183-year-old inn Friday when the city of Rogersville hosts a pre-bid conference there.

The project has been four years in the making since the Rogersville Heritage Association purchased the building. The next crucial date for the project will be May 3 at 2 p.m.
