New High-Tech Online Auction Site Specializes in Rare and ...

After more than a year in development, VAMquest.com is now up and running as an Internet auction site for VAM collectors. Each month a new VAM auction, featuring a wide array of rare TOP 100, HOT 50 and TOP 50 Morgan and Peace dollar varieties will be available for viewing at www.VAMquest.com. Auctions will then close on the 15th of the same month at 8 pm PST. Michael Oxman, President of VAMquest Auctions, said recently, At VAMquest, our plan is to focus on the ultra popular varieties in top-of-the-line grades. The fact is that we'll be more than a little disappointed if we don't offer at least a few VAMs each month that collectors have spent a lifetime trying to find! VAMquest is currently auctioning an 1878-P 8-TF VAM 14-15 in AU50 condition, as well as the ultra-rare 1903-S Micro S VAM 2, also in AU50.

Car fans flock to Spring Carlisle auction

A gleaming orange 1969 Chevy Camaro with black racing stripes, a metallic blue 1938 Dodge pickup, a pale green 1957 Thunderbird and a shiny black 1919 Sayers/Scovil hearse were among the hundreds of cars for sale this weekend at the Spring Carlisle auto auction.Larry and Pat Phillips of Waynesburg, Greene County, didn't purchase a bidder's card but they did stay in town an extra day to take in the auction. The couple spent Thursday and Friday on the grounds at the annual spring flea market. Friday afternoon they headed to the auction at the Carlisle Expo Center and they planned to return today before leaving for home later in the day.“I was curious to see how things would go here compared to the car corral," Larry Phillips said, as he watched a car being auctioned.Because Phillips owns a 1966 GTO, he wanted to see the prices two 1966 GTOs would bring Friday night.

Why Does eBay Want StumbleUpon? To Promote Its Auctions

At first it didn't quite make sense to me why eBay would want to acquire StumbleUpon. eBay does auctions and sales. StumbleUpon does random entertainment. At least, that's the way I used the two sites.

But then, of course, I remembered that StumbleUpon is basically just a huge database full of associated interests. It's kinda like Amazon. People who liked X also liked Y.

Deploy that technology on eBay, and suddenly your users find all sorts of stuff for sale they never knew about. I imagine somewhere inside eBay there's a chart showing that a huge percentage of their site is basically untrafficked. StumbleUpon, if deployed correctly, would help.

U2 auctions guitars for Katrina victims

The beloved Gibson Les Paul guitar owned by U2's The Edge fetched $US240,000 ($A287,300) and Bono's sunglasses pulled in $US20,000 ($A23,900) at an auction to benefit musicians who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina.

Yesterday's auction at New York's Hard Rock Cafe by Julien's Auctions raised $US2.44 million ($A2.92 million), including a 20 per cent buyer's fee, for Music Rising, a charity set up by The Edge and other musicians after the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricane.

It marked the first time such a wide selection of U2 memorabilia was available to collectors, organisers said.

Among the more than 200 items sold were Jimi Hendrix's 1966 Red Fender Mustang guitar, which fetched $US400,000 ($A478,800), former US President Bill Clinton's saxophone ($US54,000/$A64,600) and a pair of John Lennon's round, blue-tinted sunglasses ($US30,000/$A36,000).
