Industry Update: Auction Industry Growth Continued in First ...

KANSAS CITY -- Gross sales revenues from auctions by NAA members in the first quarter of 2007 increased 2% over the same-time period one year ago, a study by the NAA has found. If this trend continues, this will translate into approximately $266 billion total revenue for 2007 for the entire auction industry, up from $257.2 billion in 2006, a projected 3.4% increase for all of 2007.

This suggests the possibility of a slightly slower growth in the live auction industry in 2007 compared to 2006, when a 7.1% growth rate occurred for all of 2006 over the previous year. The first quarter growth last year was 5.7%.

These are the findings documented in a quarterly report of auction industry growth being conducted by global market research firm MORPACE International on behalf of the National Auctioneers Association (NAA).

Google AdWords Preferred Cost Bidding Not Welcomed

Yesterday Google announced a the AdWords blog a new bidding option named preferred cost bidding. Google prepped me the day before for my post at Search Engine Land on this feature. Honestly, after the call I was still not 100% clear on the benefits.

What is preferred cost bidding? You select the average price you'd like to pay per click (a preferred CPC bid) or per thousand impressions (a preferred CPM bid). The AdWords system then automatically works to hit this target price.

For example, if your analysis shows that a click on your keyword-targeted ad is worth US$0.75 to your business, you can set a preferred CPC bid of US$0.75. The AdWords system will then adjust your bid on individual ad impressions to bring your actual average CPC as close to US$0.75 as possible.

Phantoms Fifth Anniversary Jerseys Hit Auction Block

PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Phantoms announced today that the team will be staging a special jersey auction beginning tonight, Monday, April 16. The team will be auctioning off its set of 24 commemorative jerseys from its Fifth Anniversary celebration in 2000-01.

To celebrate the franchise's fifth anniversary, the team wore special black jerseys that are unique to that particular season. The main focal point of the jersey is the special fifth anniversary logo crest that features the Roman numeral V surrounded by the years "1996" and "2001" on the sides, with the "Phantoms" word mark above it and the Phantoms team logo below it. The Phantoms logo is also found on the shoulders.

Instead of featuring horizontal striping, the jersey stripes are in a V-pattern. The jerseys have a tie-up collar, and several feature a Comcast advertising patch.

The Kid’s jersey an auction hit: Founder of philanthropic Scituate ...

As a young man in his 20s, he'd abscond from his afternoon job of mowing lawns, and for $15 - for a seat in the stands, not the bleachers - catch a glimpse of Ted Williams at the plate. He wasn't the world's greatest left fielder, but he wasn't the worst either,'' Damrell recalled. But he was a heck of a hitter.''The legendary Red Sox slugger had just come out of retirement and re-signed with the team. Eleven years later, Williams would be inducted into the Hall of Fame. His elevated popularity came too late for the philanthropic Scituate Etrusco Association, which couldn't fetch more than $50 for a Williams 1955 game jersey during a fundraising auction in 1964.Tomorrow, the same jersey is the featured item in a lot that is expected to sell for $30,000 to $40,000 at a private auction.Etrusco Association founder Allan R.
